IHR takes in Injured Mare

January 29, 2011 Indiana Horse Rescue investigators as well as law enforcement officers visited a property in Daviess County where a mare had been injured by high tensile wire and left for several days without medical attention. The mare had severe injuries to both back legs and was displaying signs of hypothermia.  A caring individual had offered to buy her and another good Samaritan has offered to pay to have her seen by a vet and still the owner refused help for the mare. The owner refused to seek medical care for her and authorities impounded her for neglect.

The mare was rushed to Indiana Horse Rescue Pike, where a veterinarian was there to examine her right away. She was in a lot of pain and was sedated to clean and bandage her wounds. Today, Twinkle, as she is affectionately called by volunteers, is up, moving, eating, drinking, and doing well despite her condition. She is currently on antibiotics and pain medication as well as frequent bandage changes.

We would like to thank Doc Johnson for his speedy response as well as the volunteers who are working around the clock to keep this sweet girl comfortable and on the road to recovery!

If you would like to help with Twinkle's care, donations can be sent via mail to:
